Autumn Term

Termly Homework

Each week your child will continue to have:

Spellings homework

Set on Friday.

This may be a list of spellings to learn or an activity based on a group of spellings. Your child may be tested on these words the following Friday..

Multiplication facts

or other number facts to learn, which will be tested on Wednesdays.

The Space Mission Instant Recall Facts (SMIRF) target sheets will be sent home half-termly. Please support and encourage your child to learn these facts regularly (keep it handy… on your fridge door perhaps!)

Guided Reading

Set on a Tuesday.

Every week there will be a short piece of reading followed by a set of questions. These will be used for a class discussion the following Tuesday.

Independent reading

Ideally, children should read on a daily basis. Reading aloud helps them to become fluent, expressive and can help with their comprehension. Whether your child has been reading independently or not, it is very important to discuss and ask questions about his/her books, as this helps to develop their comprehension skills and deepen their overall understanding.

Maths homework

Set on Wednesday.

Maths homework may be a piece of consolidation work  based on what we’ve been doing in class or could be an investigation.

Optional extra homework

There will also be a set of optional tasks that your child may wish to complete. These will usually be more creative tasks based upon our Topic.

It would be great if you could continue to have a close interest in your child’s homework in order to help keep them motivated, to ensure it is completed punctually and to give them help and encouragement, when required. Your child will keep a note of all the homework that s/he is given each week in a blue Homework Diary. PLEASE SIGN AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH AND EVERY PIECE OF COMPLETED HOMEWORK to acknowledge that you have seen and approve of the work that your child has done.

Many thanks,

Miss Stride
