Termly Homework

Each week your child will continue to have:

Spellings homework

Set on Wednesday.

This may be a “spellings-related” task, rather than learning a list of words off-by-heart.

Details of this homework will be written in their Homework Diary each week.

Multiplication facts

or other number facts to learn, which will be tested on Thursdays.

The Space Mission Instant Recall Facts (SMIRF) target sheets will be sent home half-termly. Please support and encourage your child to learn these facts regularly  (keep it handy… on your fridge door perhaps!)

A guided reading task

Set weekly

Every week there will be a set number of pages to read,

followed by a written task, which will be completed in their “Guided Reading Homework Book”.

Independent reading

Ideally, children should read on a daily basis. As children become more and more competent with their reading, it is not always necessary to hear them read aloud, although this does help them to be expressive and can help them with their comprehension. Whether your child has been reading independently or not, it is very important to discuss and ask   questions about his/her books, as this helps to develop their comprehension   skills and deepen their overall understanding.

Numeracy homework

Set on Friday.

This will either be a task which reinforces the work we are doing in current lessons, or it may be an investigative or problem-solving activity.

Optional extra homework

There will also be an optional homework task which you may wish your child to do. For the first half-term, this will be a long-term project, to be completed over the next six weeks, based on our Humphrey Head residential visit.

It would be great if you could continue to have a close interest in your child’s homework in order to help keep them motivated, to ensure it is completed punctually and to give them help and encouragement, when required. Your child will keep a note of all the homework that s/he is given each week in a blue Homework Diary. PLEASE SIGN AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH AND EVERY PIECE OF COMPLETED HOMEWORK to acknowledge that you have seen and approve of the work that your child has done.

Many thanks,

Mr P Jelf and Mrs J Yeadon
