The Foundation Stage

Foundation Stage craftFoundation Stage craftOur Foundation Stage class provides a purposeful and enjoyable environment both in the classroom and in our outdoor area. Children progress enthusiastically within a secure and happy family atmosphere.

Teaching, planning and assessment of progress are excellent and children make very good progress in all areas.

Responsible social attitudes are encouraged at all times in a happy, relaxed but disciplined learning environment. Children encounter a rich mixture of academic, cultural, physical and spiritual experiences, designed to build on their natural enthusiasm and sense of wonder.

The curriculum in Years One and Two builds on the child-led approach of the Foundation stage and is a gradual transition to a more formal approach to learning.

Emphasis is placed on the importance of Literacy and Numeracy, but they are encouraged to take an interest in and develop an awareness of the world around them. Lessons are varied and exciting and the children’s creative, physical and social skills continue to develop. A clear assessment of progress is communicated to parents formally and informally. The happiness of our children is vital because it lays a secure foundation for their success at school.

Key Stage Two

7-11 years (Years 3-6)

KS2 CraftKS2 CraftAs the children become older within the school, we continue to challenge them academically and socially, building on their strengths and ensuring each child takes a pride in achieving.

With age, the children are expected to show more responsibility not only for themselves but also towards those around them.

Marton-cum-Grafton is committed to guiding each child through the most formative years of learning, so that they develop into responsible, well-balanced and caring young people who may face their future schooling with confidence and enthusiasm.
